The Light for Life

Have you noticed that many times the Bible uses the differences between light and darkness to illustrate the differences between good and evil? We’ve all bumped into something in a dark room because there was no light to help us guide our path. Yet, in a dark room, a very small light source cuts through the darkness and helps us see quite adequately. God’s Word speaks to THE source of light (good) that helps to dispel the darkness (evil) of life. Let’s check it out.

Light, darkness, navigating life, walking with Him, changing our thinking

Psalm 119:105; Proverbs 6:23; Isaiah 50:10-11; Romans 12:2; Ephesians 2:2; Psalm 1:1-3

Remember Our Responsibility

If you are a parent, a grandparent, or if you have nieces or nephews, then God’s Word explains that you have a beautiful obligation – one of consequence yet a dignified responsibility. You have this to your biological family members but also to your brothers and sisters in Christ. This honorable responsibility is to teach them God’s Word.

Learn, revere, trust, train, nurture, be an example, teach diligently

Proverbs 4:20-22, 1:7, 3:5-6, 22:6; Ephesians 6:4, 2 Corinthians 12:14; Deuteronomy 6:1-2,7; Proverbs 4:10-11

That Your Joy Might be Full

If anyone had the opportunity to be bummed out it was the followers of Jesus Christ when they learned he would be leaving them. However, he shared things with them to help them remain joyful. We can be full of joy because of the accomplishments of Jesus Christ, the gift of holy spirit, and in sharing with likeminded believers and our fellowship with one another.

Joy, cheerfulness, peace in believing, of one purpose, sharing the same thoughts

John 13:1,13-15,18,21,36, 14:1,12-14,16,18,23,26,29, 15:10,11, 16:16-24; Acts 13:44-52, Romans 15:13; Philippians 2:2; 1 John 1:3-4; 2 John 1:12

Really Want to Help Someone?

Have you ever helped someone achieve something really important in their life? Maybe as a teacher you helped a student understand a concept and that opened a door for them to achieve special things. Maybe you helped one of your kids deal with a hardship and it turned their life around. While these examples are admirable, the greatest source for helping others is with God’s Word.

Born again, new birth, perfect gift, Paul, Jesus Christ, the gift poured out, help others recover

John 3:3,5; Romans 10:9-10; James 1:17; 1 John 1:5; Acts 26:18, 10:38; Matthew 4:24, 12:15; Luke 4:40, 6:17-19; Acts 2:32-33; 2 Timothy 2:24-26

Stand Firm!

There is a spiritual side to life. There is a devil, Satan, our Adversary. Because we are not immune from his attempts to hinder our lives, we must continually be on watch and resist him.

Armor, stand firm, subtlety, craftiness, we have weapons, resist, control thinking

Ephesians 6:11-13; 2 Corinthians 4:4, 11:3, 10:3-6; James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:8; 1 John 5:4

Real Service

Am I supposed to serve others and if so, what does real service look like? There’s no need to guess about this because we have been given an example of how to serve with the right attitude and the right exactness, resulting in the right effectiveness.

Service, love, compassion, ministering, blessing others

Philippians 2:7-8; Matthew 15:32; Galatians 5:13-14; John 3:16; Ephesians 5:1-2; John 13:12-17

Your Truth My Truth

“What is truth?” Pilate wasn’t really expecting an answer when he asked this question of Jesus Christ. But what is truth? Well, for some people it’s whatever they want it to be. However, the Bible answers this question. Let’s check it out.

Truth, God of truth, the Word of truth, the spirit of truth, enduring truth

Psalm 31:5; Isaiah 65:16; John 1:14, 14:6, 14:17, 15:26, 16:13; 2 Timothy 2:15; Psalm 19:10, Hebrews 6:18; Psalm 119:11, 100:5

Refining my Prayer Life

Jesus Christ taught his disciples how to pray and there is great learning in his teaching on the subject. The Apostle Paul also wrote to the believers in the Church epistles and shared what he regularly prayed for. Let’s consider some of what was part of his prayers. These examples will help us refine our prayer life.

Thanks continually, cease not in giving thanks, remembering the believers

1 Corinthians 1:3-5; Ephesians 1:16, 5:19-20; Colossians 1:3-9; 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3,13; 2 Thessalonians 1:3

The Women at the Tomb

Jesus Christ had many that followed him during his ministry. Some of the most faithful were the “women from Galilee that ministered unto him.” These faithful ones gave of themselves in service, took steps to care for his body after he died, were present at the open tomb and some of the first ones to realize He is Risen!

Galilee, women, prepared ointments, continued in prayer

Matthew 28:5-7; Luke 8:1-3, 23:49; Matthew 27:55-56; Mark 15:40-41; John 19:25; Luke 23:55-56; Mark 16:1-2; Matthew 28:1; John 20:1-4, 11-18; Luke 24:10, 18-24; Acts 1:13-14
